How to realise barbed wire


There are a multitude of different barbed wire, but only few types are really common.

The photo-etched barbed wire have the problem of being flat, without relief, this is good for the modern barbed wire with blade, but not for the traditional. Better is to do it yourself !

Take a flexible electric wire that is stripped (here 1.5 mm2 section of copper, consisting of strands of 0.2 mm).

Form a twist with 2 strands of copper per section of 1 meter, for example. The most convenient is to hang the strands at one end to a small-handled tools of any kind, the other in a drill chuck, simply wrap the wire to one on other with the drill. It’s almost instantaneous !

Take two sections of wire to make the spines, much longer than their final size :

It remains only to cut the strands at the right length :

And repeat again :

Once the section is complete, the strands are wrap around a cylinder (a marker pen here) :

It only remains to paint it, preferably with an airbrush.

For the barbed wire width of 12 cm to the Tobruk, it takes two sections of almost a meter ! It takes a few hours of preparation, but the result is really good, and it's free !
